From the municipality of Tubbergen (Overijssel) the kickoff of the commemoration was given 75+1 years of freedom, now almost a year ago. This happened with a documentary on the theme of Freedom & Responsibility. The documentary was produced by Socires in collaboration with the Wilminktheater. Programmer Bas Westerweel is director and presenter of the documentary. He interviews Frans Timmermans (Vice-President of the European Commission) about the significance of freedom today for Tubbergen, the Netherlands and Europe.
The national kickoff of the celebration 75 Years of Freedom would take place in Tubbergen, but could not continue because of corona. The Organisation (National Committee 4 & 5 May, the Foundation) Socires, Wilminktheater and Muziekcentrum Enschede and municipality of Tubbergen) has therefore decided to adopt an adapted programme for the new year of commemoration: 75+1.
In the documentary, residents, including students, come from the municipality of Tubbergen to talk about the war, liberation, and the significance of freedom today. Documentary artist Bas Westerweel also interviewed Frans Timmermans, historian Mathieu Segers, philosopher Welmood Vlieger and mayor Wilmien Haverkamp of Tubbergen about the question: How do freedom and responsibility go together? The documentary can be seen on www.freedom- responsibility.nl.
