There's a new traditionalism about the world. Not inside the walls of the church but outside. Not among seniors, but among teenagers and 20s. It happens at universities and within student movements. On school squares and in classrooms. And it happens especially online. On YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, X and other channels Orthodox Christianity is popular. It's being broadcast there by people like Charlie Kirk who broadcast his debates with progressive students on American university campuses to millions of viewers. In September 2025, he was murdered during a debate. A martyr's death, according to his relatives.  

Kirk was also famous in the Netherlands, well before his death. For teens and twenties he has been a daily presence on their timeline for years - along with dozens of other Christian influencers. Whether- and how in the Netherlands their message will continue to work can still be seen. Yet the trend is striking. Should we prepare for a new wave of (Christian) conservatism?  

Churches, civil society organisations, schools and associations struggle with the growth of young people with conservative views. Yet they will have to deal with it. Who else will catch this new generation? At the same time, the emptying of churches and society continues, and religious illiteracy in society increases. These young people are looking for an environment in which their questions and views are seriously discussed (or contradicted). Can they still find it in church and school?  

This meeting is for professionals from the philosophical field, the social domain, education, directors, scientists and other interested parties.

The occasion for the meeting is the appearance of the eponymous Socires-cahier hampered The Phenomenon Charlie Kirk Socires', in which Charlie Kirk is used by various authors as an example of a profound change in the undercurrent of our (online) culture and society. The magazine contains essays by Cees Zweistra, Marianne Thieme, Carmody Grey, Anton de Wit, Ward Huetink, Annemiek Schilpzand and Jelle van Baardewijk.
