In collaboration with De Kapel Bloemendaal organizes Socires A series of movie nights called: Movies that Matter. In this series of film evenings, meaningful cinema is linked to philosophy, conversation and meeting. We open the film series with La BĂȘte, preceded and followed by an introduction and interview led by colleague Kees Buitendijk. Together with the audience, we reflect on questions that La BĂȘte calls on us.

About the film series

With Films that Matter open The Chapel Bloemendaal and Socires a window on the world. In this series of film evenings, meaningful cinema is linked to philosophy, conversation and meeting. A series in which visitors are invited not only to watch a film, but also to be questioned: What do we see? What's hitting us? And what does this say about the time we live in?

The film nights are inspired by the book Thinking about film from colleagues Kees Buitendijk, Ward Huetink and Ellen Klaver. In this bundle, eight leading thinkers explore how films can help us think about the impact of technology on our lives and living together. Not from demand "what do we do with technology? 'But right: "What does technology do to us?"

About the movie

Suppose technology can 'purify' our emotions... That is the approach of La BĂȘte, which begins in Paris in 2044. Gabrielle gets her DNA purified by going back to her previous lives. In these different epochs she finds her great love over and over again. Gabrielle, however, is overwhelmed by fear, a premonition that a disaster is coming.

Kees Buitendijk is a philosopher and since January 2024 director of Socires. Kees directs various programs within Socires, including Finance and the Common Good and Rheinlands Denken and Doen. He is co-author and initiator of the book "Denken" about Film.
