About the film series

With Films that Matter open The Chapel Bloemendaal and Socires a window on the world. In this series of film evenings, meaningful cinema is linked to philosophy, conversation and meeting. A series in which visitors are invited not only to watch a film, but also to be questioned: What do we see? What's hitting us? And what does this say about the time we live in?

The film nights are inspired by the book Thinking about film from colleagues Kees Buitendijk, Ward Huetink and Ellen Klaver. In this bundle, eight leading thinkers explore how films can help us think about the impact of technology on our lives and living together. Not from demand "what do we do with technology? 'But right: "What does technology do to us?"

About the movie

In their studio Halim and Mina make kaftans, Moroccan women robes. Together they have a kaftan shop in Salé. But modern commerce and technology are advancing. Their love is also under pressure from illness and Halim's feelings for a new student. Halim and Mina are looking for a new balance between tradition and modernity. Is their way of life doomed to disappear?
