A new edition in the cycle Film & Philosophy (formerly KINOSofie). In collaboration with the Kloosterkerk organizes Socires several nights about the impact of technology on our lives. Every film screening is introduced by a leading thinker who invites us to watch, reflect and discuss the future of society and the role of technology. This evening the introduction will be provided by our colleague Ward Huetink.
Technique in Beeld
The reason for this film evening is the collection 'Denken over Film - Techniek in Beeld'. The collection contains eight essays by well-known philosophers, aimed at making large (life) questions accessible for discussion in relation to new information technology developments and applications. Themes of the essays range from the effects of smartphone addiction to autonomous AI. More information about this bundle can be found here.
About the movie
In Ironman (2008) by director Jon Favreau we see how billionaire and engineer Tony Stark, after being held captive in an Afghan cave, creates a unique armor to fight evil. So he becomes the superhero Iron Man. The film raises deep questions: what does he say about justice? What does he tell us about today's heroes and about the power of technique (and money) that makes their actions possible?
About the speaker
