Refresh the food system
On Friday 15 October 2021, for the celebration of World Food Day, foodFIRST, together with the Netherlands Food Partnership (NFP), organised a hybrid event that attracted over one hundred food professionals to Pakhuis de Zwijger in Amsterdam, and on-line attracted many more people from all over the world from 61 different countries, from Latin America to Sub-Sahara Africa to Southeast Asia. In addition, it was important for foodFIRST to involve young people; With nearly 50% of participants under 35 years of age, this was achieved. In addition, the programme, developed in close cooperation with Dr. Monk, inspired participants to propose concrete actions that would contribute to real transformational change, and to debate urgent issues requiring immediate action. On World Food Day, three specific food challenges were addressed: 1) enabling healthy and sustainable food choices, 2) digitisation and 3) living income.
