The bundle Release, trust, connect is the result of a program that Socires In collaboration with the Scientific Council for Government Policy and the Doen Foundation. Under the title 'Binding: Social Cohesion in the Netherlands', a series of workshops and conferences on innovative citizens' initiatives in the Netherlands, aimed at documenting and disseminating promising ideas. The concept of binding was central to this: what binds citizens to society? How to stimulate binding What forms does it take in a modern network society? How can people's involvement in that society be promoted? The conclusion of this series was, however, that many of these connecting citizens' initiatives ended up on the dead end, because they clashed with what we called 'the rubber wall', i.e. the lack of responsiveness of local authorities. The title of the final report of the programme, written by Jos van der Lans, was therefore intended as an advice to the (local) government.
