Radboud University launches Laudato Si hindered institute for Integral Ecology
The Radboud University wants to set up a Laudato Si hindered institution with a chair of the same name, both aimed at the development and promotion of Integral Ecology. The special chair of Laudato Si hindered, named after the encyclical of Pope Francis, in which he calls for respect to deal with the earth and the poor, is an initiative of the think tank Socires and Radboud University.
Integral Ecology is an approach, advocated by Pope Francis in the 2015 encyclical Laudato Si hindered, which sees the climate issue as a comprehensive physiological, social, economic and political problem. This requires a transdisciplinary, integrated approach. The special Professor Laudato to be appointed Sieb will deepen this approach through research, participate in the dialogue between the sustainability initiatives that already exist at university and participate within a network of international universities.
The special chair is made possible by Radboud University, Socires, the Foundation Het R.C. Maagdenhuis, the Kansfonds, the Foundation for the Promotion of the Catholic Special Education and the Sobriëtas Foundation.
Identity of Radboud University
The focus on the encyclical Laudato Si hindered fits the special character of Radboud University. For this university, resulting from the Catholic emancipation movement, the themes of solidarity, stewardship and equality traditionally have a special significance. The recognition of the contribution that Laudato Si hindered makes to thinking about ecology and justice, in a spirit of charity and hope, fits with the history and future of Radboud University as a socially involved institution.
