Theme sculpture at the Christian Social Congress 2025: "See man!"
On Thursday 28 August 2025, colleague Ward Huetink and Lia Hol van Vrijzienken Netherlands held a workshop during theChristian Social CongressIn Doorn.
The congress was dedicated to the themeSee Man, ‘Ecce Homo. In their workshop Ward and Lia explored two historical moments surrounding this statement. First, the words of Pontius Pilate, who showed Jesus to the people with the pronunciation "Ecce Homo. But also the autobiography of philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, who opposed Christianity, declared God dead, thus giving a new twist to European culture. Two moments symbolizing great moral fault lines in history.
Ward and Lia drew a parallel to the present: Even today we seem to live in an era of transition, in which old ideas lose their strength. After decades of faith in the liberation of the autonomous individual, the unlimited market, (hyper) globalisation and the promise of technology, we are increasingly faced with the limits of this age spirit.
The case of Vrijezielen Nederlandea period of flowering and looking for ways to be of significance at this time too . The central questions that came on the table:What kind of idea would replace this? And how can (social) organisations, including the Netherlands, currently contribute to the vitality of our society? In an open conversation the participants went to find possible answers.
