In collaboration with the Monastery Church, organized Socires A movie series called Kinosophy. It's a film series about the impact of technology on our lives. Each film screening was introduced by a leading thinker who invites us to watch, reflect and discuss the future of society and the role of technology.

Technique in Beeld

The reason for this series is the collection 'Denken over film: Techniek in Beeld'. The collection contains eight essays by well-known philosophers, aimed at making large (life) questions accessible for discussion in relation to new information technology developments and applications. Themes of the essays range from the effects of smartphone addiction to autonomous AI. More information about this bundle is can be found here on our website.

About the movie

Suppose technology can 'purify' our emotions... That is the approach of La Bête, which begins in Paris in 2044. Gabrielle gets her DNA purified by going back to her previous lives. In these different epochs she finds her great love over and over again. Gabrielle, however, is overwhelmed by fear, a premonition that a disaster is coming.

About the speaker

Kees Buitendijk is a philosopher and since January 2024 director of Socires. Kees directs various programs within Socires, including Finance and the Common Good and Rheinlands Denken and Doen. He is co-author and initiator of the book "Denken" on Film.
