Colleague Paul Bosman interviewed philosopher and sociologist Gabriel van den Brink about his new book "The topicality of the archaic book." In his book Van den Brink makes a long detour to better understand our present time. We see a lot of despondency and powerlessness in modern times, but in the past people faced enormous challenges. According to him, modern man is out of balance. Thinking about our evolutionary history can ensure a better balance between the physical, social and spiritual dimensions of human existence.

On June 12, Ronald van Steden and David Oldenhof gave a workshop on the role of libraries for vital society at the National Library Congress. The theme of the workshop was "Public libraries as places of meaning." With a full room they reflected on how libraries contribute to local social cohesion, community formation and meaning.
